For Your Kids!
Vicki’s Bio and Experience
I am a long standing performing arts teacher, and qualified to the highest level from Dublin Ireland. I studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music for Drama Teaching, and at the Gaiety School of Acting as an actress. I have worked as a professional actress and also a singer songwriter in a band for many years. I just released my album MERCY that I recorded here in Phuket, and it was up for Grammy Consideration this year. All of the songs I wrote myself, both the lyrics and the melodies.
I also taught at the most prestigious drama school in Ireland called Ann Kavanagh’s Theatre School. She taught two oscar nominated actresses and her reputation proceeds her. I had my own performing arts school in Dublin called VK Theatreworks, and then in Hong Kong for 7 years called Fusion Academy.
What is VK Theatre Works?
A private performance school, that teaches children age 2.5-18 years old. The main focus will be on acting skills, public speaking, group drama classes, singing classes, singer songwriter classes (where your child will be taught how to write their own songs), and also a Tots group class for children age 2.5-3.5 years old.
Performing Arts help a child develop on so many levels, not just with giving them the skills to be a performer, but to give them confidence, a sense of being part of a team, better speaking abilities in group situations, self worth, compassion and a chance to express themselves. This in turn helps many other aspects of their lives. I can vouch for this form going through it all myself. The performing arts are an invaluable tool in life for all walks, all careers. I have worked with companies and businesses to help employees with their self confidence, their presentation skills, to open their minds to help them be more creative and productive.
What is on offer for the coming term?
I will offer a 12 week term and below are the classes I am proposing to offer. Please contact me if you are keen in trying any of these.
Private Singing Classes
4 students is the max for this class.
The children will learn about their vocal abilities and how best to use their voice without damaging it. It will entail vocal exercises that are fun, as well as learning contemporary songs. These classes will focus on technique and different singing styles, finally honing in on your child’s strengths, and working with songs that best suit their voice. They will build a repertoire of 4-5 songs in the term.
Singer Songwriter Classes
With me playing both guitar and keyboards, and giving the children different chord structures, the students will learn how to compose their own songs, write the lyrics and develop the melody. It is a great way to develop writing skills, as well as creativity. I did this as a workshop at UWC last year and it was a huge success. This will really tap into your child’s imagination, and help with their writing, and creativity. It is not an easy class, but for the child who is enthusiastic about writing music, this is the class for them.
Great to get your little one moving and learning to express themselves. For children age 2.5 years to 3.5 years. This is a really fun class and the children get a lot out of it. We will use music, musical instruments, our imagination, and puppets and more! At this age, they are sponges and get so much out of learning how to move their bodies, and express themselves using their voice, music, singing, and their bodies.
Group Drama Classes (Children age 4-8 years old)
A fun class where we will learn about characterization and mime and all other sorts of drama skills. This class is great for developing confidence and social skills. It improves speech and also motor skills.
Group Drama Class/Public Speaking (Children age 9-15 years old)
A fun class where we will learn about characterization and mime and all other sorts of drama skills. We will also do some work on public speaking and presenting a speech. This class is great for developing confidence and social skills. It improves speech and also motor skills. On top of this it generates a sense of being part of a team, and opens the imagination to explore lots of creativity.
Musical Theatre Class
Must be a minimum of 4 kids and maximum of 10.
This class will focus on teaching children how to perform on stage, the way that the stage works, such as stage directions, and how you place yourself, and also how to project ones voice, and have a “stage presence”. This class will combine both music and acting to give an all round musical theatre education, with some basic dance choreography too.
Private Classes of any of the above.
